Ukrainian books have become a weapon in the hands of the nation. UICDI experts visited Kyiv Book Fest

From September 8 to 10, Kyiv hosted the first book event in the history of independent Ukraine, with more than 15 domestic publishing houses presenting genuine Ukrainian literature to visitors.

According to Vladyslav Kyrychenko, owner of Nash Format publishing house and organizer of the Kyiv Book Fest, the festival’s slogan was the same: “A book is a weapon!”
The goal of the event is to raise funds to update the library collections of military educational institutions with modern literature.

“This war is also about the existence of Ukrainian books, theater, science, and industry,” said Vladyslav Kyrychenko.

According to UICDI Director Mykhailo Shevchenko, such a book festival demonstrates the ability of Ukrainians to defend their culture, national identity, strength to resist the enemy, and the high level of intelligence of the nation.

“If a book publishing house develops in a country at war, where modern history is written in Ukrainian, it means that the nation will continue its existence, stable development and pass on its strength to the next generations,” says Mykhailo Shevchenko.
Nationalist literature presented by Kryla Publishing House was also popular at the festival.
“Books, like all other information resources, are very important, especially in times of war. And it is not surprising that Ukrainian books are gaining popularity. Especially a subject like ours – nationalist conservative literature. And it is not just gaining popularity, it must move and spread in society,” said Vasyl Labaychuk, director of the Kryla Publishing House.

 

As a result of the event, the organizers of Kyiv Book Fest raised more than UAH 1 million to replenish the libraries of military educational institutions with modern literature.
Also, as part of the Book to the Front project, 727 Ukrainian books will be sent to the military to read.
