ABOUT THE COURSE
The course is devoted to the historical and philosophical understanding of the Cossack phenomenon through the study of outstanding personalities involved in the formation of the army, country and civilization.
This topic undoubtedly requires an interdisciplinary approach and an appeal to anthropology, ethics, national and international law of the 16th and 18th centuries, religious studies, and socio-political sciences.
A comprehensive understanding of the Cossacks as a social, ethnocultural, military, and political phenomenon of Ukrainian and Eastern European early modern history has been characteristic of the national tradition since the heyday of the Cossacks themselves.
Students are invited to familiarize themselves with a scientifically balanced understanding of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian Cossacks against the background of the era and at different stages of the evolution of our society from the late fifteenth to the late eighteenth century, as well as with modern interpretations of the achievements, miscalculations, and historical heritage of the outstanding figures of prominent Cossack leaders.
In addition, the history of the struggle of the Ukrainian Cossacks for the realization of the sacred ideals of freedom and prosperity of the country, nation, and faith will be considered.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The main goal of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the principles of historical and philosophical analysis of the phenomenon of the Ukrainian Cossacks and to master the main theoretical approaches to analyzing the historical achievements of the military and political leaders of the Cossacks.
