The course “Philosophy of Conservatism” was launched by UICDI. The course is taught by Vitaliy Khromets, a UICRI expert, philosopher and public figure, Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor.
In the first class, we learned about the basic concepts and history of conservative philosophy, and considered the role of tradition and stability in conservative thinking.
“While I used to have questions when studying conservatism, today’s lecture covered all aspects so clearly and comprehensively that I received answers to all my questions,” the participant said at the end of the class.
What did they talk about?
- There is no Conservative party in power in Ukraine, but conservatism itself is always present in society and has its representatives.
- Conservatism preserves traditions and does not lend itself to rapid, rash changes.
- The formation of conservative ideology is a reaction to the French Revolution and the Enlightenment.
- Conservatism rejects theoretical reason and applies practical reason, which is based on tradition and generational experience and derived from common sense.
- Conservatism prioritizes public duty, and then public rights that arise as a result of public duty.
- Conservatism preserves something for its consumption in a new form that is adapted to modern realities.
- Conservatism is based on traditions, but under the influence of external circumstances, it modifies and slowly changes traditions.
