Myroslav Dnistryansky
Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Geography of Ukraine.

Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Geography of Ukraine Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. He is the author of more than 220 scientific and educational works.

In the field of ethnogeography, historical and political geography, he revealed the role of multidirectional colonization movements in the settlement of the Ukrainian Carpathians, analyzed the formation of state borders, changes in ethnic boundaries on the territory of Ukraine, substantiated general trends in the evolution of administrative-territorial systems, socio-geographical principles and criteria for their improvement.

Research interests: theory and methodology of geographical science, political geography and geopolitics, ethnogeography and historical geography, demogeography and geography of settlements, economic geography and geoeconomics.

In 1995, he defended his PhD thesis “Political and Administrative Structure of Ukraine (Geographical Problems of Formation and Improvement).

Based on the results of his research at the Ukrainian Free University in Munich, he prepared and defended his dissertation “The Territorial and Political System of Ukraine” in 1999.

In 2006, he received his doctorate in geography. The topic of his doctoral dissertation is “Ethnopolitical Geography of Ukraine: Problems of Theory, Methodology, and Practice.”

He is a member of the specialized academic councils for the defense of doctoral and PhD theses at Lviv National University.

As a demo-geographer, he revealed the preconditions and regional peculiarities of the demographic crisis in Ukraine, reflected the socio-geographical potential and problems of functioning of very small cities in the Lviv region.
